Good points:
1) AMD 64 3200+ CPU
2) 7200 rpm 160GB HD (why only 2MB cache?)
Bad ones:
1) 512MB RAM (2 x 256). Remove 1 of the 256's and put in a 512 or 1GB.
2) ATI Radeon? Xpress 200 128MB Shared Video Memory. Shared memory simply sucks! I went to install a game with minimum requirements of 32MB video on my son's PC, which had 64MB of shared memory. I should have worked, right? Wrong. When running with shared memory, unless you are *At That Time* pushing the PC with an app (game) - it is NOT using all of it's memory. So, in a pretty much idle state (like software installation) the PC only has 8MB of video memory. (You can use a 3rd party app to check this.) And 8MB is what the game read for video memory.
"Insufficient video memory for installation."
I bought him a video card and disabled the shared memory. Viola! - Posted by: SC-man Posted on: 04/04/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
