I'm a long time Tivo fan

I've been a Tivo user for at least 5 years. During that time I've evaluated Windows Media PCs, Replay, and several other PVRs.

IMO, Tivo wins hands down. With the exception of Replay none of the other comes close.

With that said, I've become increasing disatisfied with Tivo's creeping advertising, and I'm close to telling them to take a hike. My series 1 is heavily modified and it would be a simple matter to unplug from the service and go to time/channel recording.

I have a Mac Mini/Elgato 200 system PVR system that already works as well as my Tivo (minus the Season Pass) and allows me to easily burn any recordings to DVD. And is a great second computer to boot (pun intended)
