Oh I won't argue that there was a down side to it.
However I will still hold onto the idea that now that the
standardization has taken hold and for these many a year that if
NOT for the rebel....ie Apple we'd all be bored to TEARS by now,

It's is unavoidable that when you standardize and commoditize
while you gain many advantages you also loose a lot of things
and in general someone outside the norm even if just one is
important for the general health of the industry. I am firm in my
belief that Apple has been a boon to the industry as a whole.

I said firm...heh heh heh
