Perhaps you should move...
The coverage problem in the US (as well as having GSM, CDMA, ...) is a problem in the US, partially due to broadcast power between cell towers and a number of other factors. Isn't competition great? In Europe and Asia, where it is more likely that someone will have a mobile phone than a PC, the coverage is better (they also standerdized on GSM, 1 standard 4 frequencies).
