- RE: Huh?

>Your comment makes absolutely no sense, I think the Mac/Linux fanbois are really starting to unravel, lol.
While I agree the original poster was off his knockers, don't put this one up to a Mac/Linux/Windows advocacy thing. This is a console advocacy thing, and it has no relationship to the PC/OS opinions war. I know several die hard Mac fans who love the XBox and several die hard Windows fans who won't touch one in favor of a PS2. Personally, I happen to like Macs more than Windows PCs. I use both on a daily basis, but given a choice I tend to gravitate towards the Mac. That being said, I'm not terribly happy with the PS2. In fact, I sold my PS2 3 years ago and have gotten along just fine with my XBox. While I'm under the opinion that several of Microsoft's business practices are on the shady side of the fence, I love their game console, and it is my console of choice.
>Nothing prevented Sony from creating an excellent development environment for the Playstation, but since they didn't, they have to accept that it makes the Xbox more attractive to developers.
This is a big deal. Several developers won't touch XNA in favor of their own development environments, etc., but for those who opt to use it, it has the possibility of dramatically reducing production costs, especially for titles that span PCs and the XBox. When game budgets are in the 10s of millions (approaching 100s of millions,) this type of thing can have a major impact.
>For a first-gen console the Xbox rocks
Yes it does. Just like Sony did when they entered the market, Microsoft released a great first console and has become a serious competitor to Sony and Nintendo. The PS2 will undoubtedbly remain the champ of this generation of consoles, but what happens next generation, or the generation after that? Sony's not going to remain on top for ever. No console manufacturer has. Atari was once on top, so was Coleco, and Sega, and Nintendo (still are in the handheld market.) Soon enough, Sony will give up its spot as reigning champ. Does that mean Microsoft will be on top for a while? Who knows... maybe it will be MS, maybe it will be someone else. - Posted by: JakAttak Posted on: 03/08/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
