..Do they know what these expectations are? It sure isn't eye candy....

If game dev isn't about 'eye candy' then what is it about?

.. Design is where the expectation is....

Design of what since the visual doesn't seem important to you?
Left, right and fire is all you need.

It's the power and realism of the graphics that makes the game.

But you and graphics company know better than MS et al.
