OTOH
As a parent who is also not a gamer, I would appreciate some tool that tells me material is objectionable before I shell out $50+ for a game I feel my child should not have. I personally would google for information on it and check other sources, but other parents are not as familiar with these tools and could use the labeling help.

I do agree, however, that making the purchase of these devices illegal to minors is the wrong move. If my child were to go to Best Buy (for example) and buy a game he/she shouldn't have, it would be with his/her own money. Once I found out that such a game was in use, it would be thrown in the trash or otherwise destroyed and the money would be forfeit. Gotta pay to play.

As a conservative and a Christian, I have some pretty strict morals, and intend my children to live by them as long as they are under my roof. For me as an American citizen to require you to live by them as well, not matter if you agree or not, is a violation of all America stands for. I always shudder when people, even well meaning ones, try to legislate morality. The law I pass today to take away your playboy could often be used tomorrow to take away my Bible.

If I want the world to live as I do, through friendly debate and the visible success of my lifestyle, I should be able to pursuade you to it. If not, it is likely not that good an argument in the first place.

Every person's home is their castle. I promise not to invade yours if you promise not to inveade mine. Where we need laws is only in how we will behave on common ground. In the cases, laws should absolutely be behavioral, not moralistic in their approach.
