I think, SELECTIVE moderation, ...
... although I'm stumped as to the selective criteria. After all, anybody who has been around here for any length of time knows that you and I fall on the opposite ends of a LOT of issues, but --- guess what --- we still continue to talk to each other, direct post to direct post (wouldn't have it any other way: heck, if the only people I'm talking to always agree with me, what'll happen when we're BOTH wrong? This is how my wife --- argumentative little darling that she is --- keeps me in line).

Back to topic: Yeah, if the Dell box were a DIFFERENT, more expensive box, I'd be an idiot to go for that $499 -> $699 "sell up." What was so frustrating was that in all the cases it was the same, exact model. What was happening was that they were offering a different group of "bonuses" or "freebees" with it; you know, "double your memory, free with this online coupon," when I FIRST opened up the website versus "a free 256GB USB drive," or something like that, when it "recalculated." If I did some hand calculations as a result, I would discover that I could get get it down to the $499 price, sans the additional 512MB of memory (that I really WANTED) and still be getting the little USB drive (that I really didn't want). So the question becomes: am I in the majority of prospective customers who wanted more memory instead of that little drive, so does that make it a true bait-and-switch?

Jeesh, I don't know, my head hurts just trying to recalculate it! Let's just say I'm with you about letting it go, calling it a stupid lawsuit, and continuing to vote with my wallet as far as the boxes I DO buy.
