But ya still gotta be careful..
The key is that that guy in your home town will probably speak YOUR native language, and communication is what you need when things go wrong, NOT some "sponge listening" by some guy in Bangladesh reading from a script sheet.

On the other hand... You still need to be careful when picking a shop. Depending on where you're located, many of the small shops (especially in S. California) tend to be owned and operated by various Asian peoples. Not that there's anything wrong with that - except as you pointed out - communication is essential when you've got a problem. Sometimes, there can be major barriers if you don't happen to speak Vietnamese or Mandarin Chinese.

Case in point... A friend of mine picked up a cheap MP3 player from a local vendor at a computer show. It would seem that the device was defective. He spent close to an hour and a half on the phone with them just getting an RMA. The guy who picked up the phone spoke next to no English. He was passed from one person to the next until he finally got someone who knew enough of the language to deal with the problem. To date, he's sent the package back but hasn't recieved a replacement nor a refund and getting ahold of the right person to talk to has proved elusive as well.

If you plan on buying a system or accessory, check out the company's service rep (if at all possible) before spending your hard earned duckets.
