Thats just good business by BOTH of you.
As a customer it is simple good sense to leverage suppliers off each other as much as possible in order to get the best deal possible (A very good time to do this btw is when buying Tires - take a card and get every business to write their best price on it, by the end of the day you have good rubber at great prices.....just an fyi..lol).
As a supplier it is equally good sense to provide the best service for the most vaulable customers.
Where the customer could have gone one step further was to come back to you (preferably with something in writing) and give you a chance to overtrump (price or service) the other guy he went to.
Like wise you may have been able to leverage his need for service into a commitment for a profitable (to you) service agreement.

Ahhh capitalism ........it's just a big bear hunt wink
