"Don't complain about Apple being so proprietary anymore"

I can assure you that USB2, owned by Intel, is just as proprietary as FireWire. The only difference is that Intel puts USB support into just about every desktop motherboard it sells, making FireWire an extra-cost item.

FireWire was developed before USB2, is better and doesn't cost any more to integrate into a mother board. But it ain't Intel, so you will never see native support in an Intel-based PC.

In contrast, every Mac for the last 5 years has supported both FireWire and USB. The real issue is who is trying to leverage their market power the most?
