Around the world trip in 6 months?
Don't be rediculus. For that you take a device called notebook (PowerBook) and transfer pictures nightly. Plus you can burn them on some more reliable storage and see on bigger screen.

In fact I do not believe you will store 10000 songs on iPod for sake of... wisdom.

I own two iPods and after a year I do not see any purpose like you do although I use one of the iPods as a Jukebox for Home Theater. It is simply impractical to hold all music on portable device prone to damages and loss of data. I keep archives on DVD-R's and load only about 2000 songs that are my and my family favorites.

Do you have 10000 favorite songs to listen to?
Do you really use electronic means to browse your pictures other than bragging before friends that you have a new, cool device?
Do you risk storing thousands of pictures with memories of part of your life on one portable device?

Be reasonable. On average few days trip I take 200-500 pictures at pretty high resolution (the highest of my camera and not the one that average Joe uses). For that I prefer keeping a few memory cards or CD-R as a security for the memories.
Would I put them on iPod Photo? Perhaps... if I had two of them and one I would ship home so it is not lost during security checks at airports around the world or stolen in some country where theft is common.

But if treating those devices as storage is a good idea then okay. Be my guest and buy 1TB portable storage device of the future. Just don't cry when failure occurs.

In the meantime iPod Shuffle seems to be a hit due to how people use multimedia.. in this case music. Read specs of the device. It may answer a few social questions of human nature.
