Um....my iRiver can already do that...
the Iriver H seres (at least the H320 and H340) international versions already support USB on the Go, meaning they can be hooked up to digital cameras and card readers and used for the same thing. Maybe its just a big deal because the iPod is catchin up with everyone else (aesthetics aside, I don't see why so many people buy them...very low performance per dollar)
