Phones, cameras, music players and pda's are all spinning in the
same gadget space and gadget gravity is eventually going to
squeeze them all into the same gadget space.

I'm sure Apple understands this but isn't about to make the
mistakes that everyone else seems to be making, which is
rushing half-baked products out the door (see the latest
Olympus camera-pod whatever). The optimization and
miniaturization of hardware for each technology is still evolving
and it will probably take another 3 to 5 years before it can all be
brought together well.

Apple now has a stable platform with iPod and can choose to
add each technology when it's ready and can comply with their
standards for UI and ease of use.
