The Cell is more than the sum of it's parts
IBM has taken a G5, put it on a high speed Rambus memory bus
with high speed Rambus memory and harnessed eight parallel
execution cores to create a floating point "supercomputer on a
chip".

The result is a chip architecture that blows away the fastest from
Intel or AMD by a factor of 10. They are going to make them by
the millions for Sony to use in the PS3, and Toshiba to use them
in next generation HDTV's. The volume from these two alone
will make the Cell chip cheap.

Since the Cell is basically a G5 on steroids, Apple will be able to
run OSX on it with the changes they have made in Tiger. Core
Video and Audio were designed with this chip in mind.

Because the Cell is a volume chip, Apple will eventually be able
to use it in all their computers. Now just think about the Mac
mini with 10X the power of dual-core Pentium chips.
