- Properly designed PCs are not noisy...
-
For the most part properly designed PCs are not particularly noisy. Most complaints about PC fan noise comes from PC enthusiasts who assemble a performance PC and require higher than normal air-cooling. Often they chose the incorrect cooling hardware for the job which results in excessive noise. Properly designed and built performance PCs do not suffer from this problem.
The only reason most people would need a PC with an operating sound level below 30 dBA is if the PC is in a sleeping area like a bedroom or dorm. And less than 30 dBA is easy with the PC standby option that throttles everything down if you leave your PC running 24/7.
So there isn't a particular need for a lot of the "silent" PC gimmicks sold, but those who lack the technical knowledge to properly cool a PC quietly with conventional air-cooling will likely fall for the latest trick-of-the-week. - Posted by: realitycheck101 Posted on: 01/31/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
