A bit of clarification
Thanks for responding, by the way.

The first part of my response was directed at those who hold up 'hypocritical' Christians as proof that Christianity is (at best) a deficient religion or (at worst) a threat to humanity. The second part, however, was directed just as much at Christians as at non-Christians. A lot of Christians (like everyone else) get an idea in their heads and refuse to let go of it, even in the face of reason. Everyone, Christians as well as non-Christians, could do with a little more tolerance and a little less judgementalism.

Two final points:

"...(in fact, he turned water into wine, so he clearly had NO problem with it)."

If I'm not mistaken, the reason wine was consumed in Jesus' time was because 'pure' water didn't exist. The fermemtation process probably worked to purify the water somewhat. Can anyone else shed any further light on this?

"...and ~I~ have to hear about it constantly from these blow hards."

Well, Christians would claim that they have to constantly hear from non-Christian 'blow hards', who have been attempting to marginalize Christians in American society for quite a while now. Unfortunately, in a 'free' society we all have to put up with some 'blow hards', whether we like it or not. The alternative is to being controlling thought and speech. Is that what we want?

This is not necessarilty directed at you, since I don't know anything about you, but in general I find it interesting that those who for so many years have preached 'tolerance' and 'diversity' (against the tide of 1950s mainstream, Christian, middle America) now seem so unwilling to practice those virtues where Christians are concerned. Christians are basically told to 'shut up' and that their beliefs and opinions should hold no sway in American society. If you were a group that was treated thusly, how would you react?
