PVR usage
They'll be coming out with PVRs that accept cablecard, so that's how those would work. And PVRs have their own interactive menus and bypass those of the cable box anyway. Personally, that's one of the main reasons I have one -- the monthly charge is more than justified by not having to use the Comcast/TV Guide menu system, which is easily the worst user interface I've ever seen.

On the whole, though, I don't see the big deal in cablecards. I have no faith at all that cable companies will pass any savings on to us, and it doesn't give anything that a set-top box does. If anything, it offers less options. The only way I could see it being useful is if they start making high-end RECEIVERS with cablecard slots, not tvs.
