Dell's Rollins dismisses iPod as a 'fad'

Kind of show's he doesn't understand what he's saying

"It's interesting the iPod has been out for three years and it's only this past year it's become a raging success," he said. "Well, those things that become fads rage, and then they drop off. When I was growing up there was a product made by Sony called the Sony Walkman--a rage, everyone had to have one. Well, you don't hear about the Walkman anymore. I believe that one-product wonders come and go. You have to have sustainable business models, sustainable strategy."

The Sony Walkman is a portable music player. The I-Pod is a portable music player. Umm doesn't this kind of contradict the point he was trying to make.

Of course you don't hear about the walkman, who uses tapes anymore? Diskman anyone? IPOD? They replaced the Walkman with the new tech. Every company is putting out portable music players and Apple just seem to have the hot ticket in terms of Music players. I think Dell's a little envious as thier players aren't selling well.
