I was getting at...
...the probability that average tech-ignorant consumers would likely just listen to what "cool" people like Bono have to say, then associate the IPod--the same IPod that U2 is hawking--with "those latest-and-greatest gadgets people use to get albums like that one U2 was complaining about being 'leaked'."

Yes, 20% or so (my guesstimate) of the population knows that an IPod isn't the same as a P2P network client. With a careful marketing ploy, though, led by U2-boo-hoos and cheeky TV commercials through which their anticipated meme gets cemented into the minds of cement-heads, the average consumer would not know any better and would think that by purchasing an IPod they'd be "jumping on that important new music-sharing bandwagon." Apple doesn't care if these average consumers find out after-the-purchase that their shiny new IPod doesn't do what they thought it would do. Soon music lovers will be using their Kazaas, etc. to get music that they then upload to these shiny new IPods--in other words, Apple has been able to weasel itself in as the dominant "middle man" to the file-sharing market that exists between musicians and end listeners.

Not everyone, of course, who purchased an IPod through the XMAS season was confused; many knew exactly what kind of product they were getting and were happy to buy. How much extra sales revenue, though, did Apple & U2 get from this curious (to say the least) misinforming coincidence?

Unrelated? Maybe...
