Techno-phobic teachers are partially to blame...
My husband is a Middle School teacher and while he is far from being a "techie", the scary thing is that he is one of the most knowledgeable teachers in the school when it comes to computers and is often the person that many teachers come to when they have problems (then again, maybe they know that he?ll just turn around and ask me?).

I just returned to grad school to get my Masters in Educational Technology and one of the recurring topics discussed is how to overcome the hurdle of techno-phobic teachers who are reluctant to integrate technology into their educational practices. Part of the problem is that many of these teachers are afraid to be ?shown up? by students who they feel know more about computers than they do. What they don?t seem to grasp is that while some students WILL know more about computers, it doesn?t detract from their ability to teach their subject matter (e.g. just because a kid knows more about how to work a computer doesn?t mean that they know more about Social Studies, Math or Science). Technology integration can be as simple as having students create a PowerPoint presentation, participate in a WebQuest or research a subject using "good" online resources ? it doesn?t have to be terribly complex or difficult. The fact is, just being able to use technology in the classroom has the potential to engage students that might otherwise become disinterested.
