misconception my eye!
drm is the software that stops my vcr from recording the signal from my dvd player and stops my dvd player from playing dvd's burned on my pc. i am sick and tired of this crap. and if this new techno caters to the fears of those money hungry content providers then i am not going to support it. they can take it and drop it off the nearest high rise for all the good it will do me. if anyone is misleading the public it is the recording industry apologists that claim they are just protecting their rights. if someone wants to break the law they are going to find a way. it's us little guys that have no intention of making 50 million copies to sell on the black market that pay the price for their fears. we just want to protect our investment. but do we get a say in the fiasco? no way! the consumer has no rights as far as the recording industry is concerned. it's just business. let the buyer beware!

hp will probably cater to them by having the dvd recorder in this machine code the index to be machine specific. that way the drm will not let a dvd recorded by my machine be played in someone elses. regardless of what they claimed in the keynote, this compromise will probably be put into place so hp doesn't get sued like dvd-x-copy got trashed. so much for consumer flexibility.
