- ShadeTree mentioned that "IF" the manufacturer did
-
NOT put DRM in their products that they were open to being
sued? Does that make sense? Is it not the user of any given tool
who is reponsible for their actions? I myself don't believe that
Gun Makers should be sued if a nut case kills someone or many
with their weapon. I don't believe that a manufacturer of
hammers should be sued if someone caves in the skull of
another with their hammer. I can not see the logic that "IF"
someone creates a DVD burner which can and often is used for
legitimate reasons such as backing up one's data, or making
perfectly legal copies of one's purchased content that "IF"
company A does not put DRM protection into their hardware that
anyone can sue them.....after all once I purchase and use the
equipment it is my responsibility and not theirs. Heck with my
iMac G5 a good scanner and printer I can easily scan my
paycheck adjust a few numbers and steel a lot of money and
before anyone knows what happened skip the country. (not
suggesting anyone do such a thing..but it is within the realm of
possibility) does that in some fashion make Apple responsible?
How about the scanner maker? Or the printer maker? Or the
maker of the software I used? What ever happened to the buck
stops at the one who commits the actual crime?
Me I'd make DVD burners with NO DRM and if I got sued my case
would be based on the fact that I did and am currently doing
NOTHING wrong.
