- There are no guarantees that if you buy a device using a competing DRM technology that it will be able to read your copies. Once there is a clear winner there will be a convergence on a standard that will simplify interoperability. Today even without considering DRM there are interoperability issues based on different and proprietary encoding formats. The IPOD versus REAL Player battles are a good example. I any event, if you truly bought the content you should be able to make new copies that work on the new device.
