Tivo's sales are not enough to support them and make them profitable.

Tivo *should* have been the consumer product success story of the decade. You have to ask yourself why it isn't.

I can tell you two reasons why: I won't be buying a Tivo 2, first because I bought a "lifetime" subscription, which Tivo now will not honor. (They changed it to mean the lifetime of my Tivo 1, and won't move it to a Tivo 2.) I could even live with that, if a new Tivo plus new subscription would offer me value for the money. But it doesn't offer the new features I want.

I want to be able to burn my favorite TV programs to SVCD or DVD just like I do with VHS tape. Why won't Tivo let me do that? Because they don't care about me, the consumer. So screw them.

And don't be fooled into thinking that what Tivo's encrypted, DRM encumbered disks are the same thing. I can still play tapes I made a decade ago. There's no guarantee you'll be able to play DRM'd video & music even two years from now.

Also, I will not put up with some corporation telling me I can't record, say, my favorite team's games. And you'd better well believe that's exactly what the Networks and the NFL want to do.
