- Your point is debatable...
-
"Ah, so *you* want *your* IP protected, but not the other guys."
1. When you say 'you', is that collective? I was responding to your -Most Linux People I Know- statement and gave my impression of the ones I know. This statement does not apply to me personally as I have no IP to protect.
2. I find no where in any of my statements where I advocate no protecting everyone's IP. I may decry the system, but IP must be protected for aleast a small interval to give incentive to create.
"Tell me, how does infringing copyrighted works put even a penny in the "artists" hands?"
Once again here you debate a point I haven't made. I never advocated, nor did I state a desire, to infringe on IP. I certainly did not state that it was a way to insure that artists, or anyone else, get paid.
"But it's a changing world you claim? Fine, let it change if that is really what the market wants"
Here is the one statement of substance that can be truly debated in your whole post. The reality is that the market has little to do with this situation and that you do not see that is the major proble with your posts. Infringing on IP is a way to circumvent the market. On the other hand, when customers leave en mass, going to court to compel them to return also ignors and circumvents the indicators and forcecs the market is giving.
At its base level, the market seems to be saying to the big record lables, your are not producing what I want to buy, or the cost of your product is very out of line, and your profits will suffer because of it.
The market is working, but not to the benefit of the Record labels. You must not fall for their mixed message. So often you hear them complain about lost profits from an Eminem CD release via P2P early only to later discover that it sold 10 million copies. If you really do your research, you find that sales are actually up in the record industry as a whole, but the market share of the big 5 is going down.
"but stealing from the "promoter" and then saying his business model is wrong is something only a crook would say..."
Another simply inflamitory statement that has nothing to do with my post. See how much time it takes to clean up your ofal just to get to the one little tid bit of material? It even turned out to be wrong on so many levels that I only replied to try to enlighten you.
Please consider giving just a bit more thought to what you write. I sense that you really want to post something insightful. It hurts me to see you fail so miserably. - Posted by: Mack DaNife Posted on: 01/04/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
