- A friend?
-
That is the problem in a nut shell. "A" friend is fine and within the copyright law and fair use rulings. Millions of friends however is not, regardless of the system used. In TiVo's case, they elected to place limitations on what may be done with their hardware to support copyright and the owners of the copyright. Some would say they have acted responsibly and found a halfway point. Of course there is the fact no one is forcing anyone to buy a TiVo unit. If enough people find it's features agreeable, they will do well, if not, they won't. That is as it should be.
I do not find it surprising that you mention Linux. In my experience those that believe in open source tend to believe in open everything. In their opinion no one should ever have any right to IP under any condition. Fortunately their opinion is in the very tiny minority. - Posted by: No_Ax_to_Grind Posted on: 01/03/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
