Computers vs. consumer goods
---For me it is all about the Benjamins---

This has certainly proven to be the case in the computer market. People are much more concerned with the bottom line than they are with functionality or quality. It's not the case, however, in every other market.

Think about it--how many of the appliances in your home would you put up with if they were as reliable as your computer? What if you had to reboot your toaster, or constantly apply patches to your television? People won't put up with it for a lot of our everyday products, but somehow, we've been sold this idea that computers are just like this and we just have to accept it. The only product I can find that is as unreliable are cel phones.

Will the music player market follow the PC market? Clearly, it's more of an everyday consumer item than the PC, so I'd expect consumers to have higher expectations, and for quality to make a difference.
