lifetime of the unit, not the user
The ZDNet story mentioned that the "lifetime" subscriptions are for the lifetime of the TiVo unit, not the lifetime of the subscriber. That makes the lifetime subscription time limited to obsolescence of the unit's ability to keep up with the service, and also time limited to the physical durability (the user's willingness/ability to get the unit repaired). That sounds like false advertising to me...
