You have to remember that WalMart runs on different economic terms than everyone else in the world. They have enormous leverage, and considering that they sell 1 out of every 5 cds sold in the world, they can get deals no one else can. For example, they're pressuring the RIAA to get much cheaper prices on cds than anyone else:

I'm not aware of any discounts given by Napster, although I do recall Rhapsody doing a few weeks of everything at half price. In order to do this, they had to take a multimillion dollar loss. Not a good way to run a business.
