Not really that many
There is really no good scene release of HL2 yet but activation in all other soft was easily defeated. So really considering it is a little early 20,000 is not that many. Every seasoned person in the scene knows that most releases are for evaluation only and that if you really like the game and want to play on line you will buy it. (Most serials in the scene are either quickly blacklisted and won't work online but will work to intall and play the game or are generated by key generator programs that for some reason can generate valid keys to install and play or unlock the game but are not seldom official keys so the game cannot usually be played on line.)

A few will get really lucky and get an sn that is not blacklisted but that is rare. I have never really tried a game on-line so I have never worried about it.

With a little patience you can get any game in the cheap bin after about a year. Heck by this time next year you will be able to get a package of all 4 of the Half life games for about $15.

The early review on this game are pretty glowing but I notice lately that the buzz fades really quick. Who talks about Doom 3 anymore? It seems that despite the investment games at full retail have a very short shelf life.

Anyway back to the article. What I don't understand is why the game companies don't offer no-cd patches. They are the greatest. There is nothing better then to not have to f around with a cd when playing a game.

About all activation does is cause a major pain in the ass for those who buy the game and delay the scene release for a couple of weeks or so. Not really a problem considering any who are really into the scene probably have at least a six month back-log in games to play if not longer.
