Yes Windows 95 and it's brethren didn't allow printing directly to a tcp port, that's certainly not the case with either 2K or XP. And even with 95 you could still get an lpr utility or if you were on a Novell network set it up as a NetWare print queue. And guess what? The printer never had to be connected to another PC.

OTOH, one of the stupidest things about XP and 2K is that printing to a tcp port is not considered "network" printing. The geniuses at MS actually consider such a printer as "local".
Maybe that will amuse you from now on.
