- Frankenball, The Viagra for golf?
-
There comes a point where technology takes from the competitiveness and development of skills of a sport and this is just one of many that has involved golf. Technology has taken away or at the very least lessened the challenge of a person improving their skills to play a game. The only people that need this ball are those that cannot play the game.
I am a golfer, for the life of me I don't know why, but there is an inherent challenge in "beating" the course. Yes the player must still make club selection, swing the club and strike the ball but part of the skill is aligning ones shot to adjust for a persons fade, hook or slice. On the surface I have no complaint with improving equipment but there has to be a plateau that the spirit and sport of the game has not been diminished.
Not everyone is going to be Tiger Woods and to me this ball alone is not going vastly improve the weekend hackers scores that much but in my eye enough is enough already. I enjoy golf for the challenge. Mastering the tools and skills necessary to shoot a low round of golf. I have to ask the question, if the advantage comes in the form of improved technology, what fun is that? I liken this to the computer hunting company that was reported earlier this week
