What major drawback ??
Size - You can get some pretty small pc's nowadays - take a look at www.oqo.com , and even laptops with PCMCIA Cable cards.

Noise - Ok, just how old IS your current PC? - All the new ones (Made by reputable manufacturers) have extra quiet drives and fans - some of the newer PC's are actually quieter than some laptops

Extra Electricity - even if the pc DOES take more electricty (which I doubt, because the biggest draw is the HD, which TIVO has), it'll be what, $2 a year?

I agree that TIVO and all other devices like this are a joke - I wish people could see these devices for what they are ... a computer without a keyboard or mouse.

If wired and configured correctly, the modern home needs nothing more than one PC, a NAS device, a stereo, a display of some type (I prefer my projector that gives me about a 175 inch screen) and a VCR (optional)to provide all the entertainments functions available.

And besides, with the high quality cabling available today, who says you need an EXTRA pc, just use the one you've got and leave it where it is.
