Money can't buy everything, but can it buy success?

Halo was developed by Bungie software, who were primarily developers for Mac OS games (remember Myst? Oni? Marathon?). But MS wanted to "win" the gaming wars, so they bought one of the best games around and with it came one of the best game developers - Bungie.

So now Mac users have to rely on MacSoft porting games that would have been available on Mac much sooner had not MS decided to buy Bungie and make them write for Windows and Xbox only.

So yeah, Halo 2 is popular. And because it's only available on Xbox, that makes Xbox popular too. The logical conclusion is not that Xbox is a great platform, but that Xbox's popularity relies solely on Bungie's ability to continuing to write great games for Microsoft.

And Microsoft proves once again you can buy market share - I think that's called a hollow victory.
