You're right to point but I think the games the same though. It's more like you're that play no knows about on the team. If you don't do anything to get noticed you never will but you can rake in a good living while not reaching the pay of those star players.
A small business these days goes one of two direction. You stay small and profitable or build up to get notice where you sell out to a big corporation for big money. The guy who created Hot Mail is great example. Microsoft paid him a handsome some for that baby. On the other hand there are poeple who write those apps that big corporations don't bother with. The market there is small but profitable if you want to make living.
Also a small business can play the patent lawsuit game just as well as the big boys. A patent law suit against the big boys is worth a lot cash.
