Divergence, rather than Convergence
I think some people are missing the point. PalmSource != Palm. PalmSource is the Palm OS maker. PalmOne (the handheld maker) can choose to develop handhelds that use the Palm OS, a Microsoft OS, or Linux, and they don't even have to choose. Ultimately, (in theory, at least -- I'm not a developer, and don't know what restrictions are inherent in the architecture) they could develop a handheld that works like a PC. Your average Intel-based PC can take on Windows, Linux, or any other Intel-based OS. The same could be true for Palms. As a matter of fact, it's not hard to envision people dual-booting their Palms. I think it's a fascinating idea to open up the possibilities for the architecture.
