- This goes to the heart of why it took Steve Jobs...
-
... to come up with a way to make online music distribution profitable, convince the RIAA types to go along, and still make it sellable to the end-user. Everyone else has either been copying Steve's model (perhaps with a slight price difference) or failing.
Why Steve Jobs? Because of all of the visionaries on all three sides of the issue (computer industry, entertainment industry, and end-users), only Steve IS on all three sides: as CEO of Apple, he's one of the chief visionaries of the computer industry. As such, he understands the desire of computer makers to offer the most power to their users. As CEO of Pixar, he's one of the chief visionaries of the entertainment industry, and as such, he understands the desire of the entertainment industry mogels to protect their copyrights (his own movies being among the most-pirated out there). Finally, he retains at least some of the geeky computer user that he was a few decades ago. Only he could see the complex issues from all three sides, and come up with a compromise that would work and be acceptable to all three sides (of course, the extremists on any side will always reject any compromise, however reasonable). - Posted by: Joel R Posted on: 11/03/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
