I really hate to be the one to break this to you,but Apple's limits on what you can or can't do with iTunes-downloaded songs doesn't appear to be a defining issue to the majority of people who buy iPods.
The anything-that-keeps-me-from-copying-something-that-is-in-no-way-mine-to-anything-that-I-want-to,-any-time-that-I-want-to-is-evil folks said pretty much the same thing when Apple limited the number of systems that you could play an iTunes song to three last year. Apple still seems to be selling iPods and iTunes seems to still be around.
