I think ...
... that the hijackers were pawns, of TWO groups: Al-Qaeda and the Dubya administration.

I remember a movie, can't remember the title, but I think it was James Caan who played a pro quarterback jailed for something. During a game played against the prison guards, he somehow offended his inmate teammates and his offensive line then just allowed the defense through to clobber him.

Substitute the WTC and Pentagon for James Caan; substitute the FBI, CIA, and military establishment --- lead by the Dubya administration --- as the offensive line, and substitute the hijackers for the defense coming through.

The only place where the analogy breaks down is that if what happened at the WTC were carried backward through the analogy to the football game: James Caan would have been killed. (Oops, we didn't want 3,000 people killed, just a hundred or so on a couple of airplanes!)

And what was the offense that the people in the WTC had committed which upset their "offensive line?" Why, Dubya and his cronies needed some excuse to get into Afghanistan (get the pipeline built) and Iraq (all that OIL).

Oh, I was never going to vote for Dubya (no surprise there, eh?), but I'm glad I'm not wasting my vote on the Libertarians or Ralphie boy.
