Build it and they will snoop
Ahhh yes, the slippery slope is yet again showing us that the promises of technology to free us can be turned against us. In a networked world, it is possible to plant evidence quite easily especially when it's an inside job. You don't like that person down the hall, not to worry, plant some porno jpgs or documents in the wrong place and your enemy is gone. This is the mentality that fostered in the few bad points of the Patriot Act, i.e. to protect your freedom you must give it up.

I do understand the problem a business faces when trying to protect their intellectual property. But the lack of balance in the methods used shows up that totalitarian rulers don't just live in North Korea or Iran, they also live in the chair of the executives of most corporations.

For those of you who even for a second are unsure if your employer monitors you, save time and assume they do. Ask them exactly what they monitor so you can be sure to not fall into the trap. IM is not private, email is not private and your use of the corporate or organizational network is anything but private. Encryption may slow it down but the simple fact is, the computer is owned by someone else and so are you during your workday.
