maybe the music industry (they are), just that people may have to exercise their free choice in not updating, vs trying to change Apple or disliking Apple. Same with the Xbox or PS2. Mods a plenty, and almost all run afoul of the mfr's intent and desires, but once sold, IMO, there is nothing Apple, Sony, MS, or the RIAA can and should do about individuals choice, and visa versa. Peace.
