What monopoly ?

The iPod can play .mp3 files !

So, shop at any store you like that carries mp3's.

Import the mp3 into iTunes and thus to the iPod.

Of course, that requires a second step, oh, mercy me !

Why should Apple have to alter the iPod so it can dance with
other partners?

Don't see any justification, myself.

I suppose there's a lot of people who'd desperately like to get a
piece of Apple's pie, and whine because Apple's not serving
them on silver plates.
