- Uncensored Humor, yes...but more than that...
-
I didn't really "hear" anyone admit this on these posts...but I AM a Howard fan & listener. Granted, ALL of his shows aren't incredibly entertaining, but for the most part, they are interesting & provide a viable outlet to the canned crap that's on commercial radio these days. After all, I love certain rock bands, but that doesn't mean that I love ALL of their songs. I love certain TV shows, but that doesn't mean that ALL of them will be incredibly ingenious. A baseball player doesn't get a hit EVERY time...get my point? But Howard is a visionary, & at the same time a rebel, which allows for the type of shows he presents.
Radio has regressed to the point where we hear the same songs & the same opinions on every channel every 1/2 hour. There really is no room for creativity anymore, because the moment that something (or someone) comes along that is a bit out of the ordinary, we never hear it, unless we actively search it out through other means. If it were up to the FCC & Clear Channel (Powell is a complete tool), we'd have elevator music & non-thought provoking commentary everywhere.
For me, it boils down to what "dmalone" says here...UNCENSORED humor & entertainment. What I consider entertainment, you may not, but I would never presume to tell you that you have to listen to Howard, or anyone else for that matter...at the same time, please don't tell me what I can & can't listen to. I certainly wouldn't want my kids to listen to Howard, but I also wouldn't want them to listen to Rush Limbaugh, drug-infested moron that he is, IMHO. I will be glad to debate the good & bad of both examples mentioned, & I certainly wouldn't look down on you for our differences of opinion. After all, my own brother listens to Windbag Rush, & I love him dearly, we get along very well, we just have a difference of opinion.
To get back to censorship, someone please tell me this: Why is it that Howard cannot air, on his own radio show, without getting "bleeped", the VERY SAME CONTENT that was aired on a specific Oprah show (dealing with teen sexual practices), running at 4:00 p.m., when children of all ages had access to that very show, especially when you consider that those very same teens (& even younger) do not have a parent at home at that time to supervise their TV viewing? I saw that Oprah show (came across it while "surfing"), found it interesting enough to watch for a few minutes, & was stunned at the graphic detail with which these teen sexual practices were described. Yet the VERY next day, when Howard played a tape of that VERY show, he was bleeped out at certain parts! Double standard? YES! Either Oprah should have been fined, or Howard should not have been "bleeped". There are no gray areas here, & I challenge anyone to dispute the truth of what I just said! I was present at both times, heard both shows with my own ears. Of course, someone will probably pull a GWBush on me &, instead of making a somewhat intelligent rebuttal, if one can be made, state that I must have too much time on my hands to see (hear) both of these programs, & this would be typical of the "censorship" mentality.
In closing, our free speech & our freedoms as Americans are being eroded, by an increasingly "Big Brother" type government, & that is what Howard is fighting. I'm on his side, 100%. When he goes to Sirius, so will I.
