Libertarian?
Doesn't that read:

"Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, a vocal libertarian who
frequently says the federal government should not
be policing the Internet, was the lone
dissenter."

It seems to say he's a Republican from Texas. If
the use of "libertarian" were referring to the
political party, it should be capitalized. And
if he's Republican, and voting against this, then
he's either against expanding the government (a
Republican theme) or he's in somepne's pocket.

In the end, spyware laws are not going to do
jack. Until these people stop using Windows,
this is only going to get worse. And until these
idiots writing it grow up and get their heads out
of their a**es, spyware is likely to follow the
masses to each and every platform they move to in
their attempts to get away. Let's face it, Mac
and Linux are better, but not perfect: where
there's a dollar bill, there's a way.

The core problem, it seems to me, is not spam, or
spyware. It's these idiots who make purchases
based on this crap. It's the people who make
this kind of slimy activity profitable.

But let's not all kid ourselves, shall we? Every
company not privately owned would be doing this
same crap if they could get away with it. And
most privately owned ones, as well.

Such is the age of corporate deification, where
responsibility and morals have become little more
than a quaint irritation to be ignored.

That's my 2c.
