You say, "Even a $15 million payment to Apple Corps would be
difficult for a digital music company to recoup quickly." This
neglects the often published fact that Apple makes its "real"
money on the pull-through sales of iPods that result from its
iStore success. If you use those profits to justify the deal, you
will find that payback on that $15 million investment easily less
than one month! It's a sensible deal for both companies. They
should do it and stop paying lawyers their inflated fees on both
