Do like we did with the original Playstation

when it cheap disk player went belly up causes us to prop it on its side or upside down to get it to work, we bought another one when it was out of warranty or we didn't buy another one at all. Set your level of acceptance. Don't buy the junk or make them honor the service agreement, and if the service agreement doesn't meet your demands, either don't buy it, don't buy it again, or determine whether the company is in its rights to do so legally.

Frankly, the gaming industry needs to stop pushing things out too early in mass quantities to put on the shoulders of the customer the patch and play aftermath. Launch your consoles with enough in stock to meet demand, have them finished and tested prior to shipping, have a catalog of ready games on or near launch date so a costly system isn't sitting around waiting for a reason to run, don't tie your next gen pet project to the console in order to sell the kitchen sink as well as the console, etc etc etc IMO.

Ultimately, the consumer can decide to not buy again. It's a freedom we rarely exercise in a commercial programmed daily lives, yet bicker about as if we didn't contribute.
