Apples and oranges
The phones you used with touch screens were almost certainly conductance type,
and greasy hands made a difference. The iPhone uses capacitance--with an
insulating glass layer on top, no less. The problem you refer to will not be a
problem, or a very minor one.

As always, let's wait and see how it really works in everyday use, instead of
guessing what might be.

Note: "this has happend to me multipule times "in need of 911" and the phone
didn't work" means you have had an especially challenging life. How many of us
never had occasion to call 911 at all, especially from the early cellphones that did
not "know where they were" and could not guide the responders to the problem.
I hope you have recovered from all those terrible events.
