- Cutting Price doesn't cut problems...
-
In some cases, M$ could try to "give away" Vi$ta, but - OOps, they did that and those who tested it fell into two camps, those who could use it and those who couldn't.
Oddly enough, the articles favoring read about 1/3 as many as those who outright oppose it or passively suggest that if you don't need it; if your present system works - stay with it.
Can't remember that dramatic a change in many past releases, ... except ME - which work(ed/s) for me; but the techies out there were more excited with 2k and XP, so their rantings against ME were modified by their greater expectations. XP flopped around a little, but - compared to ME (the baddo) it was a good deal. This time we have several "classes/levels" of Vi$ta, but no proximate "baddo" to compare favorably.
The best $olution to the problem - I think - came from Fred Langla: "Stop avoiding Vista ? accept it!
"; "So, saying "forget about Vista" is sensationalistic and simplistic. Of course, the appearance of Vista didn't suddenly make XP obsolete. XP remains a mainstream operating system. If you're running a well-tuned, stable copy of XP and it meets your needs, there's no four-alarm reason to drop everything and upgrade to Vista right away. But that's not the same thing as saying we should forget about Vista completely.
"Make no mistake, sooner or later, Vista is in your future. All of Microsoft's products have a defined and published "life cycle," and Microsoft will "retire" full support for XP Home and Professional on Apr. 14, 2009. That's just two years from now."
It seems to boil down to the unavoidable fact that the big guys can force you/us to use whatever they choose because they have the power to do so, and we, the millions of unhappy victims, have little-to-no power. M$ has fought a battle of wiping out what worked on the previous system so you must buy all new equipment for things that worked on it (example: the video capture, edit, and production program from Dazzle; it worked well on 98, but ME and XP would not allow it to do more than capture and then work ONLY with M$ MovieMaker.) People who paid full price for OS, 3rd Party hardware and software, and accessories were simply "shut out" by the Big Bully of Redmond. What could they do? What could Dazzle do? Finally Dazzle "merged" with Pinnacle and folks can "use" some of their product as long as it's XP-Compatible, but what about Vi$ta???
AS long as we must Knuckle-under, let's at least be honest about it. I'm tired of all the minion-hype about how much better XP is over 98 and Vi$ta over XP. They all have their weaknesses and their flaws - OK, I can accept that, but why not fix the flaws and strengthen the weaknesses instead of foisting another crappy, weak, flawed, "Wow-eeeee"? Because the object was, is, and forever shall be: "Sell, Sell, Sell!" More profit, not more usabilty. Don't really expect "More" from M$ other than hype and distortion. We laughed when Bill Gates got the Blue Screen Of Death from 98 (or was it 95??? or both???); we laughed when he could not get his "Entertainment package" running last year, but while we laugh, he's making Billions by forcing crap on us and killing the things that DID work on previous OS-es.
I'm tired, how about you? - Posted by: Media-Ted@... Posted on: 04/23/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
