I suspect that might be true....
Most of the "average" computer users I know aren't aware of anything beyond Microsoft Word and Outlook Express (with a little Excel thrown in for their "serious" database work ).

I do find it interesting that there were so many requests for Linux and OpenOffice. Leads me to believe that the more savvy users were making most of the requests.

I guess I can understand Dell's reluctance to offer Linux. I'm sure they are busy enough trying to support Windows. They probably don't want to add another OS to the mix. Besides that, it would REALLY tick off the Grand Poobah's in Redmond.

OpenOffice would seem to be a simple enough addition and pretty harmless. I use it quite a bit and like it a lot. I'm sure Dell views it differently though. First, they can't make any money by installing OpenOffice. Second, it would once again tick off the Redmondites. I would say that those two factors pretty much negate an OpenOffice install.
